Actually we are fooling ourselves, for deep down in every man, woman, and child, is the fundamental idea of God.

My belief in a power greater than myself was a concept that totally changed the way I saw myself. I mean I had always had a conception of God , but growing up my God was the man who stood on the thrown and would throw fire and lightning bolts at anyone evil do-ers down here in this place we grew up called the planet Earth. Today I know that I have a loving and forgiving God and that I just might end up in God’s Heaven one day whether I deserve it or not.
This is the story that Payton Matous is trying to tell in his newest single, Heathens in Heaven. Yes it’s a story that I believe in today. We have not gone so far down the scale to be denied by God. Believe it or don’t but He even allows Heathens into Heaven.
Matous and I had an impromptu chat the other day on the Twitter. I was expressing that my idea of God today is so much different than the ideals I was taught in church. My God doesn’t live in some box, yet he lives everywhere. Even inside of me. God didn’t make evil happen he gave man free will. It was man who shot up the schools and churches. It was man who robbed the liquor stores and stole your jewelry. God gets a bad rap at times but He is big enough to take the blame. Payton’s response was how that same idea of a God of his own understanding that helped me out of my addictions aided him out of depression and despair. It’s so freeing to believe that even I am not destined for a life in Hell and neither are my friends.
Are there Heathens in Heaven? Hell yes there are.
