I began listening to Ben Allen Curry’s music sometime early last year. He had released a song called Midland. The song gave a good scope of my hometown. Midland is one of those places that can just suck anyone in. It is a vacuum attracting all sorts to it’s dry desolation. Most of the inhabitants here are proud to be called “Oil Field Trash.” Curry writes songs about the ups and downs of the oil patch. He is one of the transplants who came out west from other parts of the US to stake his claim in the game of “Oilfield Money” as one of his songs is appropriately titled. Ben Allen Curry was born in Oklahoma and raised in Louisiana, he’s worked in the oilfield to support his lifestyle and as a songwriter he tells stories about his journeys.
This month, Ben Allen Curry released a new album that I really found pleasure in hearing. “I Can’t Be Blamed” released to streaming services 3/25/22. Each song on the album was written by Curry. Justin Lewis leads the sound with his guitar along with Bassist Tony Ardoin and Brian Petry keeping the beat.
Maybe he can finally get outta this hole we call the oilfield.
