Interstate Daydreamer

Derrick Mclendon is a Louisiana based singer/ songwriter.

Yesterday Mclendon cut his second full length album. Interstate Daydreamer. As I gave the album a listen this morning I gained visions of this man and his life through his words and song. The man is a storyteller and he accompanies his story with his simple acoustic chords.

The songs on Interstate Daydreamer are deep tracks that talk about things like the battles of addiction, balancing a career and a family, not feeling like your life is what you dreamed it would be. I certainly could relate to each word and reflect on my self. I am pretty sure everyone who streams this album should be able to find themselves in this poetic compilation as well.

A post from Derrick’s Facebook page says that the Interstate Daydreamer project caused him a lot of heartache. Derrick wasn’t even sure if the project would come to fruition at all.

“But, something in me changed. I decided to quit feeling sorry for myself and I sat down and took the time to learn how to use my recording software. Slowly, after minor tweaks and changes, I began to soften my views on the album and eventually decided to release it.” Derrick posted

The important thing is, that he eventually had a change of heart and decided to do it anyway.

“Maybe all the grief was a way to keep me humble, because Lord knows that if I would’ve gotten my way with everything, I would’ve had the big head. My wife wouldn’t have been able to tell me anything. Luckily, I got my way with one thing – getting to share my songs with you.“ said McClendon

I for one and glad he did it. Listen to Interstate Daydreamer anywhere you stream your song.

Pancho.
