In My Own Sweet Time

‘It’s been midnight all week”

This week has been brutal that’s for certain. There is much change happening in my life . I have felt as if a giant earthquake is crumbling me apart a little each day.. I think this is normal as I near my sobriety date and the reflection of time and place are whirling through my mind..

This morning i awoke before the sun, as I do on most days and I was reminded that it’s a fresh new beginning. There was bright lights at the realization of new music from one of my favorite artists.

“I’ve been trudging through the quicksand…”

The House Husband’s Guide to Keeping it Between the Lines, the new album by Payton Matous officially released today.

The Album features 9 of the latest creations from Matous. Producer Ethan Whitaker has outdone himself with this one as well.

‘I’ve seen driving rains, pouring sun’

The Six foot something ex football star Payton Matous has a folk style and a songwriting skill that has really begun to develop in the years I’ve followed him. He has a wide array of words and phrases that tell a beautiful story and his dreams are becoming reality with every breath.

‘And I know I’m gonna get there’

My favorite takeaway as of today is In My Own Sweet Time. This love ballad of trials and tribulations has hit me where i needed to be hit. It’s a perfect example of what Payton is capable of creating. I found myself in this composition and I believe others will too.

This coming weekend I will be heading to Dallas to see this song and the remainder of the album live. It’s always a blessing to see Payton Matous perform. Not to mention, he is one of the nicest people I know.. A big ol bear of a man who has a heart of gold.. Payton will be playing the Wounded Ostrich in Deep Ellum 5/11 and will be debuting his first full band show.

Fried Chicken Grease Part 3

And just when you thought it was gonna be hard to top butt fuccin in San Francisco..

And as if a sequel to a totally unrelated album wasn’t gross enough I have a great idea.. this time next we’re gonna do a part 3 ..

An album that the Crystal Meth Cowboys consider their most proud moment has actually arrived.. Go stream it on Spotify- I promise it will screw the metaverse all the way up!

What kinda genre is this ? I mean it sounds like rap music akin to Run DMC then goes into a country rift where the big oil companies are supporting the whole republican agenda..

Buzz my Cock off .. is this about manscapes or a back alley sex change? Although, It does have a good rhythm and some chorus that I caught myself singing in the shower to.

If you want different this band is your choice..

They can make you laugh cry and get the job done whether your hammering nails or nailing someone’s ol lady.

And hey they are still the homies-

Go give it a spin for them even if you can’t stand it for me..

Cooks Garage

I have driven umpteen times down US 87 and looked down from the overpass to see the neons glow at Cooks . Until last night I had never stopped in to see what this place was all about. The inside was just as if not cooler and retro than the parking lot and the staff was super friendly and the food was good and the beer was cold… errr in my case an ice cold Topo Chico was just what I needed to rinse that West Texas Dust off my throat.

Hayden McCalib reminded me of that intro on Robert Earl Keens live album, ‘I hadn’t had a Schlitz beer since the 3rd grade’

I had seen a post on Twitter that Zach Welch was playing last night at Cook’s in Lubbock.. his guitarist Colton Mathis had also made his Lubbock Debut earlier in the day as the garage was serving the lunch crowd.

Zach had the dinner spot and brought out the full band. They played that special brand of Forney Texas Music the Zach Welch penned music where a love song might include a Wrastling Ring, songs sad Enough to make your mama cry music that I love.

His show last night also included an array of Cover songs he played Hank Williams Sr , Bob Dylan, the Stones , Willie, Waylon, and the Boys and even threw in some 90s rock into the mix.. Just for me he played his version of the Lost Dog Street Bands “September Dove” I love that cover by Zach but then again it’s the only one he’s actually recorded so it’s the one I have heard him do the most. He was pitch perfect last night on everything he tackled.. I enjoyed the mix of songs he chose for his setlist.. he really played into the crowds tastes and I could tell him and the boys were Having a Damn Good Time.

It was great seeing all the homies and looking forward for the next one. They plan to be in Amarillo this next October and I hope they get a West Texas Welcome that they deserve.

Catch y’all down the road..

Grateful for the music. I was going into withdrawal it’s been a day or two since I caught a live show.

Main Street Down

Is it country or rock? you ask.. Ain’t nobody knows , it’s just Colton doing his thang.

Colton Mathis is an up and coming talent in and outside of Texas. He’s one of the greatest guitarists I’ve ever personally met. When I have been around him it’s been a great pleasure. One of the nicest guys you will ever know, and so humble where is talent is concerned. But you don’t have to listen to me, The proof is is in the pudding.

Main Street Down, Colton’s most recent masterpiece is Live now! Happy Friday, Let the Fireworks begin.

The whole album is available anywhere you stream music. Catch ya down the road.

Even Cupid sang the Blues

Valentines Day 2023 for some might mean heart shaped candies , lots of pretty flowers , and an endless supply of greeting cards , for me it means new music.

This year, Cupid comes disguised as a six foot something all American Football player. A singer songwriter and a Grad Student.

At the dawn of St Valentine’s, Payton Matous dropped a stellar new EP , Swooney Tunes. In this album Payton highlights his ability of putting his pencil to paper, he writes love songs and disguises them as the Blues.

301Productions and Payton Matous have done another lovely job. Give this one a spin.

Friends and Snakes

When I first learned of Colton Mathis, Seth Jones told me he was the one to watch.

It seems like just yesterday, I first got to see him play at Cheatham in San Marcos, Texas. From the first song he played, I knew I was gonna be a life long fan. It wasn’t long after that, He released his first single, ‘Fight’.

Colton Mathis is the guitarist for the Zach Welch band. From the Podcast Texas History Lessons, Host Michael Sparkman points out that Colton’s guitar can be heard on most anything that comes from 301Productions studios. His sound his heard on many of Zach Welch’s tracks , and can be found all the way throughout Payton Matous Heathens EP.

Mathis and the 301Productions latest release is The Frying Pan Acoustic EP. This EP features original Mathis songs and was produced by 301’s Ethan Whitaker.

I think so far my favorite from this new album is the Colton Mathis penned, Friends and Snakes.

I know Y’all will enjoy the new tunes. Give this one a spin anywhere you stream your music. And Just in Time for Christmas. Colton becomes the Kaufman County Santa Claus.

Ain’t Mine

I have had some bad times, but I have had some pretty good ones too. I have lived here and there and loved once or twice. Sad songs make me happy I reckon that they do.

My favorite song is one that pulls me in so deep that I can become one of its characters. A song when the writer seems to have written it just for me.

Jacob Ryan Marshall has done that with Ain’t mine. It’s as if he’s been living inside of my own head. Has he seen my heartbreaks? Has he felt my pains?

I met Jacob Ryan Marshall at Cheatham Street down in San Marcos a few months ago. Jacob is a humble man who just wants someone to listen to his song. I loved the way he filled up the stage with just him and his guitar. It was like at that moment in time nothing else mattered but those chords and his voice bouncing around that old dance hall.

Ain’t Mine released last night. I know Jacob Ryan Marshall has a notebook full of hooks like this one. Sad songs make me happy, and this one did me good.

Coyotes and Matches

Kade Anson dropped a brand new album today. Coyotes and Matches the latest release by 301Productions

Kade’s musical sounds are a formation of the brand of music that is Texas. He has lived all over this great state and his sounds resonate from the soil he has been walking on his entire life. Kade Anson comes from the hill country , he comes from the plains, and he has climbed high up onto the Caprock.

Although he is relatively young in his age , and in his musical career, Kade is something to pay attention to. His ability to tell a story through song is a force to be heard. He tells a story about life like he has been writing songs for generations. I

Personally, I have been watching his talent grow musically since his humble beginnings in the art of songwriting and his songs just get better and better. They are the type of songs that grow on me and the more I hear one the more I like it.

Y’all give your ear the full pleasures of hearing Kades song. This album is perfectly amazing no matter where you might hang up your hat.

Prayers to A Lesser God

Payton Matous at Cheatham Street Warehouse, San Marcos, Texas

Prayers to A Lesser God, the new EP by Payton Matous, officially released yesterday by 301Productions.

Matous is a big addition to the 301Productions team, accompanying other up and coming artists like Zach Welch and Kade Anson.

I had a chance not long ago to meet Payton and to hear him play live. Matous is a giant of a man with a unique voice. His way to twist the storms of life into song is where his talent truly lies. He is A songwriter with a song to sing. Truthful, Powerful songs that touch the darkest places in my soul. I have lived in those same haunted places and I too have found a way out. Thanks a big part to music and the written word. We do recover.

“Recovery” is a song written from a stance of coming out of that bottom. It’s a song for those who have known powerlessness and decided to take the bull by the horns approach and do something about it. It’s about getting better by working through your own inner demons and finding a spiritual connection to add light into those dark reaches of your once dark and hardened heart. In Payton Matous’ own words, “This song is like the day you got that first chip in AA, it’s the one mama is the most proud of.” I can relate. As I am writing this I have not had to take a drink or a drug for 4741 days in a row. You may think that’s a long time, but truthfully all I really have is today. I must have a conscious contact with a Power greater than myself on a daily basis and allow Him to control every area of my life. Sometimes I find that connection in a simple song.

Payton Matous explained the title of the EP. Prayers to a Lesser God is about going into any relationship with the same zeal and drive as a religious person might seek God.

Besides the heartfelt lyrics and the soulful strings of the acoustic guitar, the EP features the work of Wes Barlow of College Station, Tx on fiddle.

Sing from the heart… Learn to love your scars.

Colton Mathis

The wait is over- “Fight” the first in an acoustic series by 301Productions has arrived on all of your favorite streaming services.

Y’all won’t know the extent of his greatness for a few years, therefore enjoy the journey

Seth Jones

I was able to witness Colton’s greatness in person last Saturday, and hear him Play several songs live. “Fight” is only a small taste of what Colton Mathis has to offer.

Colton Mathis at Cheatham Street in San Marcos, Tx

It is my thoughts that this up and coming singer/ songwriter from Forney Texas is going to go places in Texas and then tackle the World.
