Today I am listening to Zach Welch’s latest EP “Live From Aggieland” the song that has caught my ears is September Doves originally by the Lost Dog Street Band. September Doves was written by Benjamin Todd. Zach Welch and Robert Herrera perform the song well.
Zach Welch is one of my favorite artists in this modern age of Texas Country and Red Dirt music. He calls his brand of music “Riot Folk.” Zach’s tunes speak to me. His music has gotten me through some pretty rough spots in my life and I can relate to what his songs say. I got to visit with Zach briefly through a live stream on Twitter several months back. I was going through my breakup and not sure what the next move was to be. I had lost some of my own passions, hopes and dreams and Zach encouraged me to keep on moving forward. He is one of many who encouraged me to keep on writing. Zach let me know that some of his greatest songs were written in the exact same scenarios of his life that I felt so troubled and ashamed about.
Zach Welch calls Forney Texas his home. His first album 254 days is full of great tunes that still give me shivers to listen to. This man puts his emotion into each song. His next album Punchy Shirts & Broken Hearts is much more of the same. Punchy Shirts & Broken Hearts is that album I was talking about earlier, the one that made me feel like I wasn’t alone. People go through dark places and the light will always shine through on the other side. His wisdom through his words gave me hope and they still do today. I mean who else likes a sad song when they are feeling blue? 301 Productions signed Welch to their label and he just keeps on turning out heater after heater. His song Ada is one of the saddest songs he has to date. It is such a relatable story. I think we all know the girl he sings about in this song. Not to mention the giant guitar rifts that accompany Zach’s vocals.
I believe in Zach Welch Music I hope if you haven’t heard it, you will take a deep dive into some of his songs. Maybe you too can find yourself and find comfort through his music.
Pancho.
